How PlainRecords works

PlainRecords is an independent website that turns U.S. government recall records into one plain-English history per brand, product and vehicle. It is run by a small independent publisher, not by any brand, retailer, law firm or government agency. This page explains how the site is made, so you can judge how much to rely on it.

Where every record comes from

Every recall on this site comes from an official public source: the FDA (food, medicine, medical devices, and recall announcements the FDA posts for companies), the CPSC (consumer products) and NHTSA (vehicles, tires, car seats). We download the records every day, automatically. We do not add recalls from news reports, social media or rumors. Each recall page shows the agency's own record and links to the official notice.

What we add, and how it is checked

What we do not do

We do not accept payment to add, remove, rank or reword a recall. Advertisers and brands have no say in what we publish. We do not sell email addresses. We do not claim that a recalled product hurt anyone unless the agency record says so.

Corrections

Every brand and recall page has a "Report a mistake" form, and you can write to us at the address below. We check reports and correct errors in our own text or matching; if an agency record itself is wrong, we point you to the agency. Corrections show up on the next daily update.

Advertising

The site may show ads to pay for itself. Ads are kept apart from the records and never inside them.
